BOCA RATON, Fla. – Another chapter will be written in the Shula Bowl rivalry on Saturday evening, when Florida Atlantic football plays host to FIU on Howard Schnellenberger Field at Flagler Credit Union Stadium. Kickoff for Shula Bowl XXIV is at 6 p.m. on ESPN+.
Both the Owls (1-1) and the Panthers (1-1) are fresh off their first wins of the season, with Florida Atlantic defeating conference rival RV Navy. Graduate QB Caden Veltkamp led the way completing 27 of his 32 pass attempts for 386 yards and five touchdown passes. His five scores thrown tie the program's single-game record while his 84% completion rate is second all-time by an Owl and his passing yards rank fifth.
Defensively, the Owls were led up front with six tackles for a loss. On special teams, graduate K Collin Rogers set the program record by drilling a 60-yard field goal, six yards longer than the previous record set by Greg Joseph, also versus Navy.
Florida Atlantic holds an all-time 17-5 advantage in the Shula Bowl, with an additional FIU win vacated, and are winners in seven of the last eight matchups.
