MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Florida Atlantic women's soccer team fell by a score of 2-1 to No. 8 Memphis on Sunday evening.
The Owls (4-8-3, 1-3-2) took on the Tigers (12-0-2, 6-0-1) on Sunday evening in the second road American Conference matchup of the month, holding a tie until a last-minute goal.
The first 45 minutes of the match was scoreless for both squads. For the Owls, senior
Daniella Diaz tried to create momentum early with the first shot of the game for Florida Atlantic with 11 minutes on the clock. The first shot on goal attempt for Memphis was at the bottom of the net, where starting goalkeeper
Ashley Small registered her first save of the night. The Owls totaled two shots in the first half. The second shot, coming from
Hailey Santiago, was over the net with five minutes to spare in the half. The Owls shut out the Tigers in the first half for the first time in three matches.
Sophomore
Sutton Markee started the second half for
Isabel Bostic. Two minutes in, Memphis scored to take the lead 1-0. Senior
Morgan McDonald took the corner kick, and
Madison Micioni scored with a header for the equalizer. Micioni leads the Owls with three goals in conference play, while McDonald recorded her second assist of the season. The Tigers took the lead with just over a minute left to close out the match.
Five players (Small,
Daniella Diaz,
Kayla Siddiqi, McDonald, and
Stella Rubidoux) remained on the pitch for the complete game.
UP NEXT
The Owls will return home to play the first home match for the month of October on Sunday, Oct. 19, at noon on ESPN+, facing off against UAB.
