BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic University Owls (18-9, 2-2 C-USA) played host to their first 2023 Conference USA contest, but St. Patty's Day luck was not on the side of FAU with Charlotte (14-11, 3-1 C-USA) taking the game 8-2.
The Owls gave up a run in the first and then saw Charlotte build a seven-run lead before the Owls could respond with two in the bottom of the sixth.
FAU's
Abby Ota lead off the seventh with a pinch hit single to left center and moved to second on a two-out
Maya Amm walk.
Zoey Jones then singled up the middle to score Ota, before Amm later scored on a
Kaitlyn Cunningham single.
- Summer Clark drew the start and then returned in the fourth to close out the game but took the loss, falling to 5-3 on the season.
- Lynn Gardner saw relief action and recorded three strikeouts, but was charged with four earned runs
- Cammeo Presutti's hot bat (20-for-42 in March) stayed hot with a 3-for-4 night and was the only Owl to have a multiple hit night
- Jesiana Mora, Ota, Becca Jones, Sommer Baker, as well as Zoey Jones and Cunningham also added hits
The Owls have a schedule change. FAU will host a doubleheader on Saturday, beginning at 1 p.m., due to poor weather anticipated for Sunday.
Fans may purchase tickets online or at FAU's softball stadium
