BOCA RATON, Fla. – Timely hitting, consistent pitching and outstanding defense led to the Florida Atlantic University's baseball team's 5-1 victory over Delaware on Sunday.
The complete game effort moved FAU's record to 5-3 over Delaware who fell to 2-4. Capturing the series versus the Blue Hens marks the Owls' second series win during the 2022 season.
Head Coach John McCormack on the game
"This is probably one of the more complete games that we have played," said
John McCormack, FAU's head coach. "I think we turned three double plays. The day started off with Armando [Albert] making that diving play in the first inning to get us back into the dugout. We scored two here and two there. We tacked on the one, which was huge. I thought that along with Tibur [Rivero], Max [Martzolf] and Drum [
Sam Drumheller] threw great. But I thought it was the most complete game we played all year. I'm really proud of the guys. It is good game to build on and we will go from there."
The Owls plated two runs in the bottom of the first after holding Delaware scoreless in the top half of the inning.
Nolan Schanuel was hit drawing a two-out pass. He moved to third on a double by
Jackson Ross. The duo then scored on
Steven Loden's RBI single.
Rivero tossed 5.2 scoreless inning scattering four hits. He relied on a stingy defense while recording three strikeouts and walking one. Drumheller pitched the final out of the sixth inning and all of the seventh. He allowed just one hit and walked one. Dante Visconte allowed an earned run on two hits and walked another.
The Owls got the run back in the bottom of the eight. Catcher
Shane Magrann hit a one-out double to right and scored on a
Jalen DeBose single up the middle.
Max Martzolf closed out the game for FAU with a scoreless ninth.

- Visconti threw the eighth, allowing Delaware its lone run
- Ross was 3-for-4 on the day with a run scored
