BOCA RATON, Fla. – On the heels of 262 all-purpose yards and five touchdowns in one game, Florida Atlantic football's fifth-year WR Easton Messer has been selected as the Burlsworth Trophy Walk-On of the Week, announced on Tuesday.
In the Owls' thrilling 51-49 victory over Rice, Messer became the first FBS player in over 20 years to record two rushing touchdowns, two receiving touchdowns and a punt return score all in the same game.
Along with his 12 receptions for 168 yards and two scores and his three carries for 12 yards and two touchdowns, it was his fourth quarter 82-yard punt return that he took to the house, longest in program history, that helped secure the team's second American Conference win of the season.
Highlight plays were made throughout, including a 68-yard scoring reception in the third quarter.
Messer was previously a semifinalist for the yearly award in 2024. Any player who began their collegiate career as a walk-on is eligible for the honor.
After starting out at Western Kentucky, Messer ascended into becoming one of the top playmakers in all of college football. He is the active FBS leader in career receptions with 260 and is No. 2 in receiving yards (3,082) and all-purpose yards (4,437).
