BOCA RATON, Fla. - Four Florida Atlantic University volleyball players earned All-Conference honors from Conference USA, the league office announced on Wednesday. The announcement was made leading up to the Conference USA Tournament, which begins on Friday, Nov. 17, at WKU in Bowling Green, Kentucky.
Sophomore Sigourney Kame made the All C-USA First Team. Kame leads the team in kills (363) and kills per set at 3.9, which is good for third in the conference. She also has a team-high 22 double-digit kill matches so far this season. The Paramaribo, Suriname native made the Conference USA All-Academic Team earlier this week.
“I thank God for the honor of making it on the All Conference USA First Team,” said Kame. “I never could have accomplished it with without the support of my coaches and teammates. I feel truly blessed.”
Junior Abbi Reid was named to the Second Team. Reid, who was a First Team selection last season, leads the team with a .302 hitting percentage and 73 total blocks. She is second on the team at 3.13 kills per set, has 19 double-digit kill matches this year and is ninth in school history with 188 career block assists.
“I am so honored to receive this honor,” said Reid. I want to thank my coaches and teammates for their support in helping me get this far.”
Setter Ivone Martinez joins Reid on the Second Team. Martinez leads the nation in assists per set at 12.91. She has nine double-doubles on the season, the most on the team. Her 1,110 helpers so far this season are the seventh-best single season total in FAU history and she is fifth in program history with 2,159 career assists. She also won the final C-USA Setter of the Week Award of the season on Monday.
“I’m so grateful to be a part of this team because without them, this wouldn’t have been possible,” said Martinez. “They push me to get better every day. We’ve all been working hard and we’re ready to show it in the conference tournament.”
Outside hitter Sydney Nemtuda was named to the All-Freshman team. Nemtuda emerged as the season progressed, twice winning C-USA Freshman of the Week and ending the regular season fourth on the team in kills per set (2.58) and fifth in digs per set (1.76).
“I’m honored to be on the all-freshman team and I couldn’t be happier. We’re all excited and prepared for this weekend,” said Nemtuda.
The Owls are in Bowling Green, Kentucky, for this weekend’s C-USA Tournament. They are the No. 5 seed and will play UTSA at 8 p.m. Eastern on Friday, Nov. 17. For the most up-to-date information, logon to fausports.com.
