We arrived back from our opening games of the Sun Belt Conference in Louisiana yesterday. Our trip began flying out of Florida on Thursday. We flew into New Orleans, stopped at the hotel and then went out to sight-see. We walked down Bourbon Street to the world-famous Café Du Monde and shared beignets. It was awesome. Kendall Utz left with about half a pound of powdered sugar on her pants.

The next day we prepared for our game that evening against University of New Orleans. Driving through to the campus we saw, first-hand, the effects of Hurricane Katrina. Houses all along the street were boarded up and all kinds of information spray painted on the doors and walls. It was really interesting. Our game began at 7 p.m. We took the first to games and were playing pretty well. Games three and four we let down on aggressive serving and passing. New Orleans came back to beat us those two games. Game five we came back pretty solidly and passed well to keep our system going. We took game five for the match.

Saturday we woke up and made the two hour drive to Louisiana-Lafayette. We came out really sloppy this match. Our passing broke down and we were not serving aggressively at all which would have taken them out of system. Morgan Johns had a few run of serves that helped us stay in the game but we were not able to hold them off game-four. After the loss, the climbed back in the vans and made the three hour drive up to Louisiana-Monroe.

Sunday morning we prepared, watching video and having a passer's meeting before our match. We entered the gym ready to play. We served more aggressively this match and served very well. We took Monroe in three straight and got to fly home with a quick win finally under our belt. Overall, the weekend was very successful. It was a good opening to conference play. This week we prepare for South Alabama and Troy, our first home games, this weekend. See everyone there!
