"We are extremely excited to have Charlie Castillo join our FAU family. He is a driven, passionate and determined young coach who will help us build a very successful program," said Nelson.
After graduating from Miami-Sunset High School, Castillo played on the club volleyball team at FIU while earning his bachelor's degree in psychology. Castillo began his coaching career while at FIU, coaching at the Volleyball Players Academy (VPA). After three years at VPA, Castillo moved on to become an assistant coach at Fort Myers High School (FMHS) where, along with head coach Stephanie Martin, he helped to the Green Wave to back-to-back appearances in the 4A state championship game.
In addition to his duties at FMHS, Castillo also served as head coach for the USA Volleyball South Region under-18 team, leading the squad to the USAV Junior Olympics in 2010.
"I'm grateful for the opportunity to help turn the program around and looking forward to getting started. It's going to be a challenge, but I'm ready to get to work," said Castillo.
