BOCA RATON, FL - The Florida Atlantic University sand volleyball duo of Joanne Marras Tate and Alessia Pizzocheri was selected as one of 16 pairs for the first-ever Collegiate Sand Volleyball National Pairs Championship.
The Pairs Championship will consist of 16 doubles teams engaged in pool play on Friday, April 27 from noon to 6 p.m. EST. The results of that play will determine the seeding of the 16 pairs into a single elimination tournament on Sunday, April 29. First round matches will start at 9 a.m. EST, with quarter finals scheduled for 10 a.m. EST. Both semi-finals and the championship match will be held on center court beginning at noon, and will be covered in depth by CBS Sports Network.
"It's fantastic for the entire volleyball program, especially for two mainly indoor players to play so well," said Jody Brown, FAU's head sand volleyball coach. "It shows how hard they have worked and how much their teammates have helped make them better."
CBS Sports Network will televise portions of the competition in two hour-long specials. Part I of the coverage will air beginning on Wednesday, June 6 at 9 p.m. EST and Part II will air on Wednesday, June 13 at 9 p.m.
