RUSTON, LA - Kristi Tekavec tied her career high with 19 kills as the Florida Atlantic University volleyball team defeated Louisiana Tech in four sets (25-12, 27-19, 25-18, 25-15).
FAU (11-14, 3-8 C-USA) held a 10-6 lead in the first set, then scored eight points in a row on the way to a 25-12 win. The second set went back and forth with nine ties and three lead changes, the Owls had three chances to end the set before the Bulldogs (7-19, 1-10) tied the score at 25. Louisiana Tech had four set points of its own before finally capitalizing on the fifth opportunity, tying the match at one set each, 29-27.
Set number three began with a back and forth as the teams fought for control. The score was tied at 13 when FAU scored nine of the next ten points, finally winning the set 25-18. It was a similar story in the fourth set, as the score was level at nine when the Owls went on another 9-1 run, eventually taking the set and the match 25-15.
Tekavec was joined in double figure kills by Katarina Stepanovic and Brianne Wojciakowski, who both had 13. Liene Mellupe led FAU with 18 digs.
The Owls travel to Middle Tennessee on Sunday, where they will play the Blue Raiders at 1 p.m. eastern. Links to live video and live stats will be available at fausports.com.
