NEW ORLEANS, LA - The Florida Atlantic University volleyball team was able to stay close most of the night, but lost to Tulane in straight sets (25-15, 25-22, 25-23) on Friday.
Tulane (22-2, 7-2 C-USA) got off to a fast start in the first set, winning by a final score of 25-15, despite four kills in the frame by Kristi Tekavec. The Owls (9-13, 1-7) led 12-8 in the early going of set number two, but the Green Wave used a 9-2 run to take the lead, eventually stretching the margin to as many as four. FAU trimmed the lead to a single point, but Tulane held off the rally to take the second set 25-22.
Set number three was close from the very beginning, featuring 13 ties and six lead changes. The score was tied at 22, but three FAU errors helped clinch the match for Tulane. Kristi Tekavec led the Owls with 11 kills, while Alexandra Harvard had 24 assists and Nathalie Rosado had a match-high 13 digs.
FAU will travel Greenville, NC to play East Carolina on Sunday. The match begins at 1 p.m. and links to live stats and live video will be available at fausports.com.
