DENTON, TX - The Florida Atlantic University volleyball team lost to North Texas in four sets (25-16, 21-25, 25-15, 25-20) on Sunday.
Darija Sataric had 14 kills to lead the Owls. Alessia Pizzoccheri was the only other Owl in double figures in kills with 12. Sataric and Sara Stoll tied for the team lead with 2.5 total blocks on the day.
In the first set, the Owls (6-15, 1-9 Sun Belt) lost the first four points, but then scored the next four points to tie the score. FAU stayed within a point for the next several points, then North Texas (19-10, 5-5) went on a 6-1 run to take control of the set, eventually winning 25-16.
Set number two began with the teams going back and forth for the first several points. With the score tied at 8-8, the Owls took the next three points. North Texas pulled to within a point on two separate occasions, but could never pull even. Late in the set, FAU's lead had been cut to two before back-to-back Sataric kills to tie the match at a set each.
The third set began in the same manner that the previous set had, this time the score was tied at 9-9 and it was North Texas' turn to go on a run. The Mean Green won 10 of the next 11 points to take a 19-9 lead, ultimately taking the set 25-15. The pattern continued in the fourth set with the teams tied at 7-7. The tide once again went in favor of the Mean Green and North Texas took a 13-9 lead. FAU was able to cut the deficit in half, but couldn't pull any closer, ultimately losing the set 25-20.
