Iana Andonova finished with 27 kills and Justine Petry added 11 blocks but it was not enough as Florida Atlantic University suffered a five-game loss (30-22, 30-26, 29-31, 22-30, 110-15) to UALR on Friday night in Little Rock, AR. The Owls won the first two games before the momentum switched to the Trojans as they took the final three games. The Owls fall to 7-14, 4-7 SBC, while the Trojans improve to 12-15, 5-5 SBC.
FAU jumped up quickly on UALR and only trailed for two points in the first two games before the Trojans rebounded for game three. The team carried its largest lead at 24-15 but the Owls fought back and tied the game at 29 on a kill by Katie Arvidson (Franklin, TN). UALR then answered with two kills to stay alive in the match. That was the only opening the squad needed as it hit .259 and .364 in the final two games.
Petry's 11 blocks were a career-high for the junior middle blocker. She added 15 kills and a .293 hitting percentage for the Owls. Andonova hit .356 and tied her season-high with 27 kills.
Amila Barakovic finished with a match-high 33 kills and 23 digs for UALR.
The Owls return to action on Saturday when they face Arkansas State in Jonesboro. The match will be the last for FAU against a western division team of the Sun Belt Conference.
