MONROE, LA - Double-doubles by Jelena Jovanovic (33 assists, 13 digs) and Darija Sataric (12 kills, 12 digs) went for naught as the Florida Atlantic University volleyball team lost to ULM in four sets (25-22, 22-25, 25-17, 25-19) on Friday night.
Sataric's 13 kills paced the Owls offensively as she recorded her third double-double of the season. Jovanovic's double-double was her seventh of the season. Megan Knapp tallied a career high eight kills and led the team with a .312 hitting percentage. Chandler Hatton led the Owls with four total blocks.
ULM (5-13, 1-8 Sun Belt) grabbed the momentum early in the opening set, taking lead of 6-1 and 13-9. FAU (5-13, 1-8) was able to rally on both occasions and tie the score, first at 7-7, then again at 13-13. The two teams exchanged the next few points before the Warhawks went on a 5-1 run to take a 20-16 lead. The Owls clawed their way back to tie the set at 22, but ULM took the next three points to clinch the set.
Cintia Nightingale's strong serving led the Owls to an early 9-3 lead in the second set and with the help of five Thacilli Pereira kills along with four from Sataric, as well as eight Warhawk attack errors, FAU tied the match with a 25-22 win.
Both teams seemed to recognize the importance of the third set, as neither team allowed the other side a lead larger than two points early in the set. FAU trailed by a point 15-14, before a 10-3 ULM put them ahead two sets to one.
Set number four followed the same pattern, with neither team able to gain firm control. The Warhawks were once again able to make a run late and this one gave them the match, 25-19.
