BOCA RATON, Fla. - The Florida Atlantic University volleyball team fell to North Texas in four sets (25-23, 25-18, 24-26, 25-23) on Sunday. FAU fell to 11-7 overall and 2-4 in Conference USA play.
There were 15 ties in the first set, the final one coming at 21-21 before the Mean Green (19-2, 6-1) scored the next three points. The Owls were able to take back-to-back points, but a NT kill ended the set. Set number two was even at 8-8 when the Mean Green went scored four straight points as part of a 14-5 run on its way to a 25-18 win. After the intermission, neither side was able to maintain control of the action. A Mean Green kill tied the set for the 16th time at 24-24, but NT attack error and a Gabrielle Dixon kill gave the Owls a 26-24 lead. NT roared out to an 8-1 lead in set number four. FAU didn’t go away and managed to level at 15. There were three more ties in the frame. NT led 24-21, but Dixon’s 10th kill and a Mean Green error put the Owls a point away from tying the score, but a North Texas kill ended the match.
- Sigourney Kame led the Owls with 16 kills.
- Abbi Reid had 13 kills and Gabrielle Dixon added 10.
- Ivone Martinez had 55 assists and 11 digs for her team-leading sixth double-double of the season.
- Kori Varney had a match high 18 digs.
- Alex Cardona added 12 digs and Dena Tekavec pitched in 11.
