SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS - The Florida Atlantic University volleyball team lost to UTSA in straight sets (25-22, 25-19, 25-11) on Sunday.
FAU (9-8, 1-3 C-USA) held the lead for most of the first set, but the Roadrunners (12-6, 4-0) scored eight straight points to take a 21-16 lead of their own. The Owls answered with 6-1 rally to tie the set at 22, behind the serving of Alessia Pizzoccheri. The Roadrunners took the next three points to win the set 25-22. UTSA grabbed the early advantage in the second set, but FAU wouldn't go away, scoring every time the score seemed to be getting out of hand. That pattern held until late in the frame, when UTSA closed on a 6-2 run to take a two sets to none lead.
The Roadrunners blitzed the Owls to start the third set and never looked back, eventually winning the set 25-11. Liene Mellupe had eight kills and nine digs to lead FAU in both categories.
The Owls continue their road trip on Tuesday, Oct. 8, when they travel to Fort Myers to face Florida Gulf Coast at 7 p.m.
