Lipscomb University took Florida Atlantic University to its first five-game match of the season, but the Bisons could not pull out the victory as the Owls won 30-22, 19-30, 27-30, 34-32, 15-6 in Nashville. Iana Andonova posted a double-double in the match after posting a team-high 20 kills and adding 14 kills for FAU.
FAU (7-9, 2-0) narrowly escaped with a victory in its first meeting with Lipscomb. Up 2-1 in the fourth, FAU needed extra points to stay alive at 34-32.
The Owls led in every category except service aces where Lipscomb tallied 13 aces to FAU's 11. Defensively, Lindsey Bell (Colorado Springs, CO) led the charge with 16 digs followed by Andonova's 14.
The middle hitters combined for 39 of Florida Atlantic's 62 kills as the team posted a .220 hitting percentage. Cayse Kaveny (Cupertino, CA) was one short of Andonova's 20 kills but led the team with three blocks.
Lipscomb (2-15, 0-3) was led by Kristin Peck with 25 kills and Lindsey Rutherford's 16 digs.
FAU's next game will be on Friday in a nonconference match at Alabama State before traveling to Troy State on Saturday to resume A-Sun play.
