MOBILE, AL - Darija Sataric had nine kills and four blocks to lead the Owls in both categories, but the Florida Atlantic volleyball team lost to South Alabama in straight sets (27-25, 27-18, 25-23) on Friday night.
FAU (4-9, 0-3 Sun Belt) led 4-3 in the first set when the Jaguars (9-8, 2-1) went on a 7-2 run to take a 10-6 lead. The deficit reached seven at 15-8 before the Owls rallied to take a 21-20 lead on a Sara Stoll kill. The two teams went back and forth for the next several points and FAU was able to fend off two set points, but USA capitalized on its third opportunity and won the set 27-25.
The Jaguars had another run early in the second set to take a 10-6 lead yet again. Once again, FAU was able to rally and tie the set at 14. The score was tied again at 16, when USA when on a 4-0 run, eventually taking the set 25-18.
The third began with yet another fast start by USA, followed by another FAU rally behind the strong serving of Cintia Nightingale to take an 11-6 lead. The Jags tied the score at 14, followed by the teams alternating the next ten points. Next came an exchange of 3-0 runs for each team putting the score at 22-22. USA took the next two points to bring up a match point, when a Sataric kill pulled the Owls within a point. However, an Owl attack error ended the match on the next point.
The Owls travel to South Alabama for Saturday's match, set for a 6 p.m. eastern start.
