Abby Miner and Iana Andonova were named to the UConn Autumn Classic All-Tournament Team. Miner led Florida Atlantic University in kills in the final two matches on Saturday. The senior from Largo, FL collected a match-high 23 kills against UMBC for a tournament total of 52 kills and a 4.7 kills per game average, while Andonova posted career-high digs in both matches on Saturday.
The Owls took game one easily over the Retrievers 30-17 as UMBC (9-7) hit .000 with 10 kills and 10 errors. UMBC bounced back in the final three games hitting over .400 in game two and .366 in the final game and defeated FAU 30-17, 27-30, 24-30, 28-30.
FAU (5-9) out dug its opponents 73-62 with three players recording over 10 digs. Libero, Lindsey Bell (Colorado Springs, CO) picked up 15 digs and setter Jeana Boyle (Boca Raton, FL) added 11. But Iana Andonova led the squad with a career-high 16 digs, breaking her high set in the previous match.
Sophomore defensive specialist Lauren McHugh (Lighthouse Point, FL) served tough against UMBC as she recorded five services aces.
Florida Atlantic will play its first conference match this Friday as the team travels to Belmont University for a 5 pm meeting. On Saturday the squad will play new A-Sun member Lipscomb at 3 pm in Nashville.
