In a non-conference match against Stetson University, the Florida Atlantic University volleyball team pulled out a three-game victory to defeat the Hatters 30-24, 30-12, 30-20 at FAU Gymnasium on Friday evening. The Owls (4-7) posted their highest hitting percentage of the season, .327, after collecting 16 more kills than their opponents.
The Hatters hung around in game one and actually had the lead at 22-19 but FAU tied it up at 22 on one of Cayse Kaveny's match-high 14 kills. The Owls would not trail again in the match, holding Stetson to a .000 hitting percentage in game two and a .029 percentage in game three.
Three players finished with double digit kills for the Owls. Abby Miner (Largo, FL), Kaveny (Cupertino, CA) and Janelle Sarauw (St. Thomas, V.I.) led FAU offensively with 11, 14 and 12 kills, respectively. Defensively, Lindsey Bell (Colorado Springs, CO) and Jeana Boyle (Boca Raton, FL) added 10 digs apiece to lead both teams. Boyle picked up her second double-double of the season after adding 34 assists to increase her career total to 2,685, closing in on the all-time record.
DeeAnn Dempsey led Stetson (1-9) with seven kills, while the libero, Melissa Muller, tallied nine digs.
FAU travels to the University of Connecticut next weekend to take part in the UConn Autumn Classic. The Owls will play UConn on Friday night at 7:30 before taking on Maine and the University of Maryland-Baltimore County on Saturday.
