ORLANDO, FL - The Florida Atlantic University volleyball team lost its two matches at the Residence Inn/UCF Invitational on Friday.
FAU lost to Pitt in straight sets (25-18, 25-18, 25-16) in its first match of the day. Thacilli Pereira had five kills and 10 digs in the loss.
The Owls (0-6) lost in five sets (19-25, 25-16, 25-16, 22-25, 15-12) to UNC-Greensboro in their second match of the day. FAU won the first set behind three kills and three blocks from Sara Stoll. The Spartans built a nine point lead in the second set and FAU was unable to make up the difference and tied the match at a set each.
The score was tied at eight in the third set, but UNCG went on a 10-5 run on its way to a 25-16 win. Set number four transpired in a similar manner, only this time it was FAU who made a run. The score was tied at seven, before the Owls took nine of the next 14 points to seize a 16-12 lead. UNCG staved off three set points before Pereira ended the set with a kill.
The Owls had an 8-4 lead in the fifth set, but could not withstand a Spartan rally, dopping the set 15-12 to clinch the match.
