JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Florida Atlantic University volleyball team split its two matches at the JU Invitational on Saturday.

The Owls (5-2) swept Charleston Southern (25-14, 25-20, 25-23) in their first match of the day. Set number one was tied at 10, but FAU outscored the Buccaneers 15-4 the rest of the way to win the first set. Ivana Bulajic had four kills and a long serving run during the set. FAU scored the first six points of set number two, but CSU rallied to within three points at 14-11. However, the Owls scored the next three points to regain control of the set and eventually won 25-20.

The third was the most evenly contested set of the match, featuring eight ties and four lead changes. FAU trailed 23-22 late in the set, but back-to-back CSU attack errors and a Liene Mellupe kill clinched the match for the Owls.

FAU lost to host Jacksonville (17-25, 25-20, 27-25, 25-20) in its second match of the day. It was a rematch from last weekend's FAU Invitational. Strong serving from Jelena Jovanovic and Nathalie Rosado staked the Owls to a big lead early in the first set and FAU cruised to a comfortable 25-17 win. Set number two was tied at 11, then the Dolphins took the next three points and never surrendered the lead to tie the match at a set each. In the third set, FAU trailed 21-15, but managed to tie the score at 23 and then held off two set points to tie the score at 25. An Owl attack error and a JU kill put the Dolphins ahead two sets to one. As was the case with the previous two sets, the fourth set was a tightly contested affair in the early going, with JU leading by a single point at 16-15, but the Dolphins went on a 6-1 run on their way to a match clinching 25-20 win. Kristi Tekavec had 14 kills and Bulajic added 13 in the loss. Tekavec and Bulajic were named to the all-tournament team.
