GULF SHORES, AL - The Florida Atlantic sand volleyball tandem of Joanne Marras Tate and Alessia Pizzoccheri completed pool play at the Sand Volleyball National Championships on Friday.

The duo began pool play Friday morning with a loss to Caitlin Racich and Summer Ross of Pepperdine in straight sets (21-15, 21-15). In their second match of the day, the Owls to Kirby Burnham and Kelly Irvin of USC 21-14, 21-17 despite 17 kills from Alessia Pizzoccheri. UAB was the opponent in the third and final match of the session. Marras Tate had 17 kills and five digs in the 21-13, 21-17 win.

Marras Tate and Pizzoccheri were seeded 11th for the elimination stage of the tournament and will face Burnham and Irvin in a rematch from pool play and the winners will advance to the quarterfinals.

The match will be begin at 9 a.m. eastern and assistant coach Ben Sheu will provide updates via the team's official Facebook page.
