Heather Chandler begins her first season as an assistant coach with the FAU volleyball program after playing four seasons (1996-1999). She helped lead FAU to its back-to-back TAAC Championships in 1998 and 1999 as well as the team's participation in the NCAA Tournament those seasons as a setter. In all, she played in a total of 107 matches during her four-year career.
Chandler holds the FAU career record for assists with 2,956. She is also in the top-10 in two other categories. She is second in aces (134) and sixth in digs (1,016). Last season, she set the FAU season-record with 1,140 assists.
In 1999, as a senior, Chandler led the team in assists and was third in aces (35). She had at least 50 assists in eight matches. She had a career high 74 assists October 17 against Georgia State.
In her four TAAC Tournament, she was named to the all-tournament team three times. In 1998, she was a member of the first FAU team to make it to the NCAA Tournament when they played the University of Pacific. In 1999, she played her final game in an FAU uniform when the team faced Stanford University in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
Chandler came to FAU as one of the best prospects in the area. She led her St. Thomas Aquinas High School team to the 1995 state championship while being named the 5A Player-of-the-Year. She was a three-sport athlete. She also excelled in soccer and track.
