BOCA RATON, Fla. - Florida Atlantic University women’s tennis Head Coach Marcy Hora-Cava has added Aliona Bolsova to the Owls’ 2017 fall roster. Bolsova comes to FAU from Oklahoma State, where she posted 31 singles victories and 30 doubles wins, as a freshman.
Prior to OSU, Bolsova ranked as high as No. 4 in the ITF world junior rankings and reached the quarterfinals in singles and doubles in the 2015 Australian Open Junior Championship. She earned multiple titles on the junior circuit, winning two doubles and two singles titles in 2015. Bolsova’s biggest win came in the junior masters in China where she defeated Jelena Ostapenko, who reached as high as No. 12 in the WTA singles rankings.
"Aliona is a force to be reckoned with,” Hora-Cava said. “She is fierce on court in a humble way and talks with her racket. Aliona knows what she wants to do and where she wants to be and has no problem putting in the work that it requires."
In her freshman season at OSU, Bolsova Went 31-7 overall in singles, including a 20-4 dual mark competing primarily in the No. 3 position with five wins over ranked opponents including a straight-set win over No. 23 Anna Danilina and No. 31 Ingrid Neel of Florida. She was named All-Big 12 second team in doubles, ranking as high as No. 31 with partner Sofia Blanco. Bolsova was ranked No. 3 in the ITA Freshman/Newcomer rankings in the fall and was also named to the Academic All-Big 12 Rookie Team.
“Aliona joins us with a 4.0 GPA and has played and beaten players in the top 50 in the world,” Hora-Cava said. "Aliona plans to get her education at FAU and then play on the professional tour."
Bolsova comes from an athletic family, as both her grandparents and parents competed in multiple Olympic games in track and field.
