Boca Raton, Fla. - The Florida Atlantic University women's tennis program has added local standouts Catalina Ene of Boca Raton and Natalia Tomascewicz of Coral Springs for the 2011-12 season. Both athletes signed National Letter of Intent to participate in athletics at a NCAA Division I university.
Both players earned a top-25 state rankings during their prep careers. Ene starred at nearby Boca Raton High School while Tomascewicz was a top player at Coral Springs High School.
"Catalina has a great all-around game. She has all of the fundamental tools and a great work ethic," said Marcy Hora-Cava, FAU's head women's tennis coach. "I can teach someone strokes and strategy but can't teach someone the desire to want to work hard every day and have fun while doing it. She brings a lot to our program."
Regarding Tomascewicz, Hora-Cava stated: "Natalia has a powerful game. There is a lot of strength behind her shots and she takes the ball early. This will push her opponents to do something early on in the points. Her father has done a great job coaching her throughout the junior level. Her father and family will be a great addition to the FAU Fan Club and Natalia will enjoy being part of our team."
FAU, a member of the Sun Belt Conference, is coming off its first winning season since 2004 with a 13-12 record in 2010-11. The Owls won 11 of their last 14 matches to conclude the season.
