Rivera, Bolsova Named FAU Players of the Week

BOCA RATON, Fla. - Florida Atlantic University has tabbed Eric Rivera and Aliona Bolsova as Student-Athletes of the Week.

Rivera had a tremendous showing at the plate this past week. He hit .412 and had 12 total RBI in a 4-1 week for FAU. He was 7-for-17 with a double, triple and home run, scored six runs, and had three RBI in one game and four RBI in two others.

The West Park, Florida, native started the week with a grand slam as part of a 2-for-4 night, with two runs scored, in Tuesday’s win over North Florida. He knocked in another run the next night against UNF, and had back-to-back two-hit games to start the weekend against Old Dominion. On Saturday, he was 2-for-3 with three runs scored and three RBI, and followed that up with a 2-for-4 showing Saturday, with another four RBI.

Bolsova continued her undefeated season, moving to 13-0 this spring in singles play. The No. 6 ranked Bolsova won seven of her eight sets by a 6-1 margin or better, losing multiple games only once to No. 11 Gabriela Knutson of Syracuse. In her 15 straight-set victories, Bolsova has won 11 sets by a score of 6-0 and 25 by a score of 6-2 or better.

The Paladrugell, Spain also went undefeated in doubles play last week, beating Syracuse’s duo of Knutson and Miranda Ramirez 7-6 with teammate Jemi Aguilar and topping Columbia’s Christie Wan/Adi Milstein 6-2 with Marisa Ruiz.

Rivera and the baseball team will be back in action Wednesday night, traveling to Coral Gables to take on Miami at 6 p.m. They will then return home for the first C-USA series at FAU Baseball Stadium this year, Friday-Sunday versus defending conference champion Southern Miss.

Bolsova and the women's tennis team host the College of Charleston on Thursday at 11 a.m. The team will round out a six-match home stretch with South Carolina on April 6th at 10 a.m.
