BOCA RATON, FL - Florida Atlantic University's baseball team and women's tennis team both picked up multiple victories over the weekend. Notable performances by Michael Sylvestri and Natalia Tomaszewicz have earned them FAU's student athlete of the week award.
Sylvestri was instrumental to the Owls' win in his relief appearance during their final game against Cincinnati on Sunday. The senior tossed four shutout innings to pick up the victory in extra innings. The right hander struck out seven of the 13 batters he faced and only one batter put the ball in the outfield. This win moved the Owls to 3-0 for the season.
FAU will next play host to the University of Miami at 6:30 p.m. this Wednesday at FAU Stadium.
Sophomore Natalia Tomaszewicz led the women's tennis team to three victories over the weekend. She went a combined 4-0 in singles and doubles action. Tomaszewicz dropped only six games in three singles matches. She also teamed with fellow sophomore Catalina Ene to clinch the doubles point in a tiebreaker against Florida A&M. The sophomore defeated Bethune-Cookman's Gaby Chinchilla 6-1, 6-1 in the No. 3 singles position to begin the weekend. Tomaszewicz picked up a 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 4 position against Florida A&M's Elysia Ortiz. She lost only one game in leading the Owls to a victory over Hampton.
Women's tennis will host two matches this week. FAU will play Oakland on Wednesday, February 20 at 1 p.m. and Arkansas State on Friday, February 22 at 2 p.m.
