Tampa, FL - The Florida Atlantic University women’s tennis players got on the court for the first time during the 2012-13 season on the first day of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Southeast Regional at USF in Tampa. The Owls suffered three first-round setbacks in singles competition.

Sophomore Catalina Ene lost in straight sets to University of Georgia’s Kate Fuller, the nation’s 64th-ranked singles player.

Also, fellow sophomore Natalia Tomaszewicz also dropped a straight-set match, and senior Natasha Basma lost on Friday afternoon.

“I am disappointed in our results today. Our players were battling some nerves with this being our first tournament of the year,” said Marcy Hora-Cava, FAU’s head women’s tennis coach. “We have some talented athletes and it’s just a matter of them believing that they can compete with the best of the best. Fortunately, tomorrow is a new day.”

Tournament action will continue through Monday, October 22.
