Women's Tennis Begins Fall Play

GAINESVILLE, FL - Florida Atlantic University began fall play Friday at the Gator Fall Classic in Gainesville, FL. The Lady Owls picked up a total of six singles victories and one doubles win on the first day of competition that is broken up into two flights.

In Flight A singles, Karolina Roubickova defeated UCF's Kristina Lohmos 6-2, 6-1 in the first round. Alena Dvorakova also picked up an early victory in a 6-1, 6-1 win over Troy State's Mihaela Moldova. Roubickova was defeated in the next round by FSU's Mihaela Moldova 6-1, 6-0 while Dvorakova suffered the same fate in a three-set loss to FSU's Anca Dumitrescu.

In Flight B singles action, FAU's Maria Aguirre-Gomez and Jessica Burrow each advanced with second round victories. Aguirre-Gomez defeated FIU's Christine Suard 6-1, 6-0 while Burrow disposed of FSU's Beth Lawrence 7-6, 6-4.

In Flight A doubles, Aguirre-Gomez and Tania Rivera advanced with a an 8-5 victory over Ola Laczak and Amira Samara.

Competition continues on Saturday and concludes Sunday.
