Owls Fall to No. 65 Pacific

March 22, 2005

BOCA RATON, FL - On the same day she moved into the national rankings, Florida Atlantic University's Alena Dvorakova defeated a ranked opponent for the second time in as many days. It wasn't enough, however, Tuesday afternoon as the Owls (4-9) fell to no. 65 Pacific, 5-2, in non-conference women's tennis action. Dvorakova, who is ranked no. 98 by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, extended her singles winning streak to 10 with a three-set victory over no. 62 Vana Mrazovic.

Pacific (12-3) took an early 1-0 lead by winning the doubles point. FAU's lone victory among the three initial matches came from the team of Dvorakova and Elodie Wendling at no. 1.

The Tigers then won four of six singles matches, all at no. 3-6. FAU's two points on the day came by way of Katherine Bartnik and Dvorakova. Bartnik, playing at no. 2 for the first time this year, defeated Katharina Heil, 6-2, 3-6, 11-9. The final match to finish was Dvorakova's battle against Mrazovic at no. 1. Dvorakova won the first set, 7-6, but lost the second, 6-4. Dvorakova then came back to win the third set, 11-9.

Dvorakova's national ranking is her first of the season. The rankings are provided by the ITA and are released every two weeks.
