Boca Raton, FL - The Florida Atlantic University women's tennis team began a busy week with a decisive 7-0 home victory over Towson University on Tuesday at Patch Reef Park in Boca Raton. The Owls were playing the first of three matches in a four-day span.

FAU improves to 9-4 on the season and will host South Florida rival FIU on Wednesday, March 21, at 1 p.m. at Patch Reef Park.

The Owls were victorious in eight of the nine matches. The tandem of junior Natasha Basma and freshman Taylor Briggs clinched the doubles point with an 8-6 triumph in the No. 3 match. Junior Natasha Phillips and freshman Catalina Ene were also victorious by an 8-3 score at the No. 2 match.

Five of the six FAU singles victories were in straight sets. Junior Marlene Ryan improved her record to 10-1 on the spring season with a 6-0, 6-1 triumph at No. 2 singles. Phillips also only dropped one game at No. 6 singles.

Senior Justine Humair picked up a straight-set win (6-2, 6-3) at No. 1 singles. Ene earned a 6-3, 7-5 triumph in the No. 4 match, and Basma won 6-4, 6-3 at No. 3 singles for her seventh victory of the season.

Rounding out the winners for Florida Atlantic was senior Erika Mrazkova at No. 5 singles. She won the opening set 6-2 but needed to win a third-set tiebreaker in dominating 10-1 fashion for the victory, which improved her record to 7-3 on the season.

FAU's home matches are played at Patch Reef Park, 2000 West Yamato Road in Boca Raton. The Owls will host the University of Denver on Friday, March 23, to conclude the busy week of matches.
