Sophomore Catalina Ene helped clinch the doubles point in the team's loss to Cleveland State on Saturday

Boca Raton, FL - The Florida Atlantic University women's tennis team could not hold off a singles rally by Cleveland State University in falling 4-3 on Saturday, March 9 at Patch Reef Park.
The Owls won the doubles point when senior Natasha Phillips and Catalina Ene picked up an 8-6 victory in the deciding match on the third court. The team evened the doubles competition with an 8-5 win by senior Marlene Ryan and junior Stephanie Cardullo in the No. 2 match.
FAU quickly took a 3-0 lead with straight-set victories by Ene (6-2, 6-4) at No. 2 singles and a win by senior Natasha Basma (6-3, 6-2) in the No. 3 position.
Meanwhile, Cleveland State's rally began with straight-set wins on the fourth and sixth singles courts. Junior Stephanie Cardullo dropped a hard-fought three-set match by 6-7 (5), 6-2, 7-5 scores at No. 5 singles to square the match.
In the deciding match, senior Marlene Ryan fell 6-3 in the deciding third set after she won the second set by a 6-2 score.
FAU falls to 6-6 on the season and returns to the court on Friday, March 15 at 1:30 p.m. against Southern Illinois University from Patch Reef Park.
