Women's Tennis Downs Arkansas State 5-2
Sophomore Catalina Ene and the Owls increased their winning streak to five matches with a 5-2 win over Arkansas State on Friday

Boca Raton, FL - Strong singles play led the Florida Atlantic University women's tennis team to a commanding 5-2 victory over Sun Belt Conference opponent Arkansas State University on Friday, February 22 at Patch Reef Park.

The win increased the Owls' winning streak to five matches after opening the season with three straight setbacks.

After losing the doubles point, sophomore Taylor Briggs lost only one game at No. 5 singles to square the match. Fellow sophomore Cataline Ene earned a straight-set win in the No. 2 match, defeating Arkansas State's Janie Nowland 6-3, 6-2 FAU took a 3-1 advantage after senior Marlene Ryan picked up a 6-3, 6-1 triumph atop the singles lineup.

Junior Stephanie Cardullo clinched the match with a three-set win at No. 6 singles. The two players split the first two sets by 6-2 scores. Then, Cardullo won the deciding set by a 6-3 score.

Senior Natasha Basma rounded out the winners of FAU with a 3-6, 6-1, 7-6 (4) victory at in the No. 3 match.

The Owls return to the court on Wednesday, February 27 at 2 p.m. when they host St. John's University at Patch Reef Park.
