FAU Women's Tennis Defeats Bethune Cookman in Second Match of the Season

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic women’s tennis beat Bethune Cookman 6-1 on Saturday, moving FAU to 1-1 on the season.  FAU surrendered only one point on the match, winning five out of six singles matches.

FAU senior Stephanie Cardullo led the way for the Owls in singles defeating Valentina Beresiarte 6-0, 6-0.  The FAU freshmen played well in their second dual match of the season Lyndsey Boos defeated Chinatsu Kajiwara 6-3, 6-1 and Bianca Biglione defeated Gaby Chinchilla 6-3, 6-3.  FAU junior Catalina Ene defeated Maria Sablina 6-4, 6-4.

The most intense match of the day belonged to FAU junior Natalia Tomaszewicz who defeated Maria Dimitrova 6-3, 6-7, 10-6 in a match that lasted close to three hours.  The pair played to a 6-6 tie in the second set before playing a very heated tiebreaker with Tomaszewicz falling 7-5 in the tiebreaker.  In the third set Tomaszewicz was able to hold off Dimitrova to win the nearly three-hour-long match.

FAU women’s tennis next takes the court Feb. 14 at 1p.m. against Iowa State in Boca Raton.
