Boca Raton, FL - The Florida Atlantic University women's tennis team picked up a decisive victory over Bethune-Cookman University on Saturday at Patch Reef Park in Boca Raton, extending the Owls' winning streak to three matches.

FAU stands 3-1 on the spring season after defeating Bethune-Cookman 6-1. The team won an exhibition match against Broward College 7-0 in the morning match.

Senior Justine Humair picked up a pair of victories to lead a balanced effort against Broward. She teamed with freshman Taylor Briggs to win, 8-1, at No. 3 doubles, before scoring a 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 1 singles.

Junior Marlene Ryan dropped just one game to win 6-0, 6-1 at No. 4 singles, while senior Cassie Bergeson won a hard-fought match 6-4, 6-4 at No. 2 singles. Ryan and Bergeson would team to clinch the match's doubles point with an 8-3 triumph at the No. 2 position.

Senior Erika Mrazkova won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 5 singles; freshman Catalina Ene picked up a 6-1, 6-0 triumph at No. 6 singles; and junior Natasha Basma rounded out the singles' winners with a 6-1, 6-2 victory at the No. 3 position.

Later against Bethune-Cookman, the Owls swept all six singles courts to down the in-state foe. Ryan dropped just one game to quickly give the hosts the momentum in the match at No. 4 singles. Humair won 6-3, 6-2 at the No. 1 position and teamed with Briggs once again to win 8-5 at No. 3 doubles -- capping a day in which the senior won all four matches in singles and doubles.



Freshman Natalia Tomaszewicz won a straight-set singles match at No. 6 position, 6-2, 6-2, while Basma clinched the team victory with a 6-3, 7-6 (4) win at No. 2 singles. Bergeson rallied after dropping the first set to win 5-7, 6-4, 1-0 (8) at No. 3 singles. Mrazkova improved to 5-0 in dual matches with a three-set triumph at No. 5 singles by 6-1, 3-6, 7-5 scores.

Bethune-Cookman won two of the three doubles matches for its' lone point of the match.

FAU returns to the court on Saturday, February 4, at 11:30 a.m. against in-state rival Florida Gulf Coast University in Fort Myers.
