Five Victories & Ten Top-Three Efforts Highlight Women's Swimming Against Clemson
Dec. 15, 2010 Boca Raton, FL - Getting back in the swing of collegiate competition for the heart of the 2010-11 season, the Florida Atlantic University women's swimming and diving team won five events and posted 10 top-three performances in a dual meet against Clemson University on Wednesday from the FAU Aquatic Center. The Owls fell 123-82 in a tune up for Saturday's FAU Invitational in Boca Raton. Jonna Nyback was a multiple event winner for FAU in freestyle races. The junior from Koping, Sweden picked up a 1.5-second victory in the 200-yard freestyle, winning in 1:53.13; picked up nine points in the 100-yard race, in 53.07; and swam the anchor leg of the third-place 200-yard freestyle relay team. Other team members were freshman Anastasia Ivanova, sophomore Michala Nowak and junior Melissa Miller. Another strong performer for the Owls was sophomore Eszter Bucz, who won the three events she entered. The Hungary native earned a dominating nine-second victory in the 500-yard freestyle (5:04.85), a three-second triumph in the 200-yard individual medley (2:08.20) and a two-second win in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:06.60).
Other top point scorers for the team included senior Janelle Nassim, who placed second in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:08.70); junior Erin Hersey, a third-place finisher in the 100-yard butterfly (1:00.54); and freshman Alexandra Gonzalez, with a runner-up showing in the 100-yard backstroke (1:02.34).
Florida Atlantic will return to the pool when it hosts the FAU Invitational on Saturday with the Air Force Academy, University of Cincinnati, the University of Denver, FIU and Rice University. The meet is scheduled to start at 10 a.m. at the FAU Aquatic Center, 777 Glades Road on the Boca Raton campus. |
