BOCA RATON, FL - Florida Atlantic University has named Charlie Castillo head sand volleyball coach.

Castillo will lead the sand volleyball team during its spring schedule in addition to his duties as assistant indoor volleyball coach.

"The chance to lead the sand volleyball program is an exciting opportunity," said Castillo. "I look forward to the future of FAU sand volleyball." After graduating from Miami-Sunset High School, Castillo played on the club volleyball team at FIU while earning his bachelor's degree in psychology. Castillo began his coaching career while at FIU, coaching at the Volleyball Players Academy (VPA). After three years at VPA, Castillo moved on to become an assistant coach at Fort Myers High School (FMHS) where, along with head coach Stephanie Martin, he helped to the Green Wave to back-to-back appearances in the 4A state championship game.

In addition to his duties at FMHS, Castillo also served as head coach for the USA Volleyball South Region under-18 team, leading the squad to the USAV Junior Olympics in 2010.
