BOCA RATON, Fla. – Incoming Florida Atlantic University beach volleyball player Megan Rice won the National Volleyball League (NVL) Texas Championships in San Antonio over the weekend.
Rice, partner with former FAU volleyball player Anne Vaughan (Osburn) won six of their seven matches over the weekend. The pair won in straight sets in the quarterfinals, defeating Chara Harris and Jennifer Snyder, 21-17, 21-16. In the semifinals, Rice and Osburn beat Kristen Batt-Rohr and Priscilla Piantadosi-Lima 21-15, 21-16 to advance to the championship match where they faced Raquel Ferreira and Karolina Marciniak. That championship match was closely contested, with Osburn and Rice winning the third set and the title by the score of 15-13.
Rice will join the team for the spring 2017 season as a fifth year graduate student.
FAU beach volleyball assistant coach Steve Grotowski placed third in the men’s tournament with his partner, Mike DiPierro.
