BOCA RATON, Fla.  – History was made for the fledgling Florida Atlantic University beach volleyball team when the Owls concluded the first year of polling at No. 19 in the final DiG Magazine poll of the year.

The Owls, who finished their second season of NCAA play, ended the 2016 campaign with 13 dual match wins, a four win improvement over their 2015 total, and advanced to the quarterfinals of the inaugural Coastal Collegiate Sports Association (CCSA) tournament.

The FAU duo of Delaney Clesen and Gabrielle Dischler became the first pair to earn post-season honors when they were named Honorable Mention All-American by the America Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA). In the fall, Clesen and Dischler advanced to the Gold bracket finals at the Queen of the Beach Tournament. The pair led the Owls in the spring with 18 dual-match victories, including a season opening nine-match win streak and victories over ranked opponents Georgia State and Stetson.

FAU is expected to return eight players for the 2017 season.
