BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic University beach volleyball player Delaney Clesen has been named to the Coastal Collegiate Sports Association (CCSA) All-Academic Team. She is the first Owl to earn academic conference honors for the beach volleyball program.
Clesen, a graduate student originally from Evanston, Ill., teamed with Gabrielle Dischler to form FAU’s winningest 2016 duo. The pair combined for 15 match victories, including four wins over CCSA opponents, most coming at the No. 1 position. 12 of the pair’s 15 wins came in straight sets.
Clesen currently holds a 3.82 grade point average while pursuing her master’s degree in counseling education.
The Owls head to Emerson, Ga. for the inaugural CCSA Tournament starting on Friday, April 22. The event opens the tournament with a round robin, two division, eight team divided into four format. FAU, a six seed, is in Group 2 with second seeded Georgia State, No. 3 seed FIU and No. 7 seed Tulane. The top three teams in each group will advance to the elimination phase of the tournament, with each group’s winner earning a bye into the semifinals.
Friday’s match against Tulane will start at 9:30 a.m. The Owls will then face Georgia State at 2:30 p.m. FAU will play its last round-robin match against in-state rival FIU at 9 a.m. on Saturday. Recaps of FAU’s matches will be posted at fausports.com.
