ESTERO, Fla. - The Florida Atlantic University sand volleyball team edged Florida Gulf Coast 3-2 in a dual match on Wednesday.

At no. 5, Lexi Rhein and Kristi Tekavec took the first set, 21-19, but couldn't hold off Madi Wilcox and Marlene Moeller, losing the final two sets. The duo of Darjia Sataric and Natalie Fraley also won their first set at no. 1, but fell victim to another Eagle comeback victory.

The Owls won the other three matches in straight sets. Mandy McIntosh and Megan Knapp won 21-12 and 21-13 at no. 4 over Olivia Mesner and Shelby Joslin. Gabriella Pyle and Andrea Galinis put on a dominant effort at the no. 3, winning the first set 21-8 and taking the second set 21-19.

At no. 2, Beth Shoaff and Lauren D'Amato clinched the match with a pair of 21-18 victories over the FGCU tandem of Karina Mambuca and Caroline Jordan.

FAU will take part in the FIU Pairs Tournament in Miami on Tuesday, March 25, 2014.
