BOCA RATON, FL - Florida Atlantic head softball coach Joan Joyce has released the team's 2012 schedule.
The NTC Elite Invitational will be where the Owls start the season for the third year in a row. FAU will face Ohio State in its first game of the season, the first of 14 games against teams that made the NCAA Tournament in 2011. The Owls will end their first weekend against Maryland, another team that made the postseason in 2011.
FAU begins its home schedule by hosting the Kick-Off Classic on February 17-19. Michigan, Long Island, Maryland, Kentucky and Wright State will make up the rest of the field. The following weekend is the sixth annual Strike Out Cancer tournament featuring Auburn, Florida A&M, Michigan State, Loyola Marymount, FIU and Tulsa.
From there, the Owls will head out to Las Vegas for the Eller Media Stadium Classic from March 2-4. FAU will face Illinois, Seton Hall, New Mexico State and host UNLV. After returning to Boca Raton, FAU kicks off conference play with a three game series against Western Kentucky.
The tournament season will conclude with the Owls hosting two more tournaments, the Embassy Suites Classic (March 9-11) and the Parents' Weekend (March 16-18) tournaments. Sun Belt play then resumes with a single game at rival FIU on March 21. A three game series against longtime rival Troy on April 14 and 15 highlights the home schedule.
The Owls will host the 2012 Sun Belt Softball Tournament on May 9-12 at FAU Softball Stadium.
