Four Softball Players Earn Conference USA Recognition
Christina Martinez was named to the Conference USA First Team on Wednesday.

BOCA RATON, Fla. - Four Florida Atlantic University softball players earned all-conference honors, announced by the Conference USA office today in advance of the Conference USA Softball Championship, which begins Thursday, May 8 at FAU's Boca Raton campus.

Sophomore Christina Martinez was named to the first team as an outfielder. Martinez finished the regular season with a team-best .358 batting average and also led the team in hits (62), triples (five), slugging percentage (.462) and total bases (80). In C-USA play, she hit .427, slugged .524 and recorded a .478 on-base percentage, leading the team in all categories.

Samantha Messer earned second-team recognition for her efforts in the pitcher's circle. The junior from Sarasota recorded a 15-7 record with seven shutouts and she led the Owls' pitching staff with a 1.50 ERA. Messer was even better in conference play, going 7-3 with a 1.39 ERA. She led the in innings pitched (65.1) and strikeouts (36) in league play.

Freshmen pitchers Amanda Wilson and Kylee Hanson both made the Conference USA all-freshmen team. Wilson posted a 10-4 record with a 2.23 ERA and was named conference Co-Pitcher of the Week earlier this season. Hanson has an 8-9 record on the year, but holds just a 1.65 ERA. The Jupiter native earned Conference Pitcher of the Week earlier this season as well.

The Owls are the No. 4 seed for the Conference USA Championship and will play No. 5 seed North Texas on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. Live stats and live video will be available at the C-USA Tournament Central page here.
