Chatham and Wilson Receive FAU's Student-Athlete of the Week Honors

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic University baseball’s CJ Chatham and softball’s Amanda Wilson were instrumental in victories against Conference USA opponents over the weekend earning the pair student-athlete of the week honors.

Chatham led FAU to a series victory at Old Dominion this weekend. He hit a double in each of FAU’s three games and had a stretch of seven consecutive plate appearances in which he reached base safely. On Friday, he hit a two-RBI double and scored in a four-run first inning for FAU. Later in that game, Chatham belted his team-high fourth home run to earn his third RBI of the night. Chatham followed up that performance by going 3-for-3 with two more runs on Saturday. He hit an RBI double, scored and walked in two plate appearances in a seven-run fifth inning for FAU. In a tie game in the 8th, Chatham singled to lead off the inning and scored from second on a single up the middle to become the game-winning run. The freshman has also been named C-USA’s Hitter of the Week.

The Owls will face UCF in Orlando on Tuesday, May 6 at 6:30 p.m. before returning home to host UCF on Wednesday, May 7 at 6:30 p.m. Live stats and radio will be available at fausports.com.

Against Middle Tennessee on Saturday, Wilson entered the game in relief and threw 3.2 shutout innings, struck out four and allowed just two hits in a 5-3 come from behind win over the Blue Raiders. On Sunday, she threw a complete game shutout, scattering six hits and helping the Owls to a 5-0 win, completing the series sweep. For the week, she threw 10.2 innings, had eight strikeouts, allowed eight hits and no runs.

FAU will host the Conference USA Softball Tournament starting on Thursday, May 8 with the Owls facing North Texas at 6:30 p.m. The tournament will last until Saturday, May 10.
