BOCA RATON, FL - The Florida Atlantic University softball team will face rival FIU in a pair of key games on the final weekend of the regular season that begins on Friday, May 4.
The Owls (15-35, 5-16 Sun Belt) split a doubleheader with Middle Tennessee University last weekend, and the rubber match was cancelled due to rain. FAU and MT are tied for the eighth and final spot in the upcoming Sun Belt Conference Tournament, however, the Owls hold the tiebreaker over the Blue Raiders. As a result, FAU can clinch a berth in the tournament with a sweep over FIU. If the Owls split with FIU, MTSU will have to sweep its doubleheader with Western Kentucky University. Should FAU lose both of its games this weekend, the Blue Raiders will still have to win one game over the Hilltoppers to clinch a spot in the tournament.
The Panthers (25-25, 13-9) defeated the Owls 2-0 in Miami earlier this season. In that game, the two teams combined for only eight hits in the game. Friday's game also will be Senior Night for FAU and the Owls will recognize the seniors playing in their final regular season home game in a pregame ceremony. FAU will travel down to Miami in the regular season finale for both teams on Saturday, May 5.
Both games begin at 6 p.m. and live stats and audio will be available for both games at www.fausports.com.
