Hanson, Strawn and Wilkerson Earn Student-Athlete of the Week Honors

BOCA RATON, FL – Florida Atlantic University’s Kylee Hanson of softball, Jeremy Strawn of baseball, and Regina Wilkerson of track and field have earned student-athlete of the week honors for their winning performances over the weekend.

Hanson threw two complete games and did not allow an earned run in either contest.  Against Florida Gulf Coast, she threw 7.0 innings and struck out nine in a 3-1 win over the Eagles. On Saturday, the freshman threw a complete game shutout in a 4-0 win over Charlotte with five strikeouts and just three hits. For the week, she threw 14.0 innings, had 14 strikeouts, allowed just six hits and recorded a 0.00 ERA. The Owls will host UTEP in a doubleheader starting at 6 p.m. on Friday, April 18. Strawn allowed only three hits and just one runner advanced beyond second base in his complete-game shutout against Charlotte on Saturday. The senior threw just 90 pitches, a perfect average of ten per inning, and struck out six batters, three of which were looking, facing only 29 batters in the game. Strawn has also been named this week’s Conference USA Pitcher or the Week. FAU will face the Miami Hurricanes in Coral Gables on Wednesday, April 16 at 6 p.m. Live stats and audio for baseball will also be available at fausports.com.

Regina Wilkerson finished the Miami Alumni Invitational on Saturday setting a new school record in the 100 meter dash. Wilkerson crossed the finish line in 11.77 for first-place in the event’s second section and a fifth-place ranking in Conference USA. The freshman also competed in the 4x100 meter relay with Deja Jones, Sitia Martinez and Nicole Poole. The team ran the second fastest time in school history finishing in 45.92. This marks only the second time the Owls have had a 4x100 relay team run sub 46 seconds. Track and field will travel to Gainesville this weekend for the Tom Jones Memorial Invite on Saturday, April 19.
