BOCA RATON, FL - The Florida Atlantic softball team will head to Alabama for a six game road trip this week. This will be the final regular season trip to both schools before the Owls depart for Conference USA this summer.
FAU (24-20, 7-5 Sun Belt) lost its series to North Texas, dropping a doubleheader to the Mean Green after winning the series opener. Those losses snapped what had been a 10 game winning streak for the Owls.
No. 23 South Alabama will be first up on the trip. The Jaguars (29-7, 6-3) beat LSU 12-5 before losing two of their three games against Western Kentucky. USA is a defensive oriented squad, led by the pitching of junior preseason all-conference selection Hannah Campbell. Campbell is fourth in the nation with a 0.87 ERA. As a team, the Jaguars are ninth nationally in both ERA (1.49) and fielding percentage (.978). USA won two of last season's three meetings, including a 3-1 win in the opener, despite Taylor Fawbush throwing a no-hitter.
After facing the Jaguars, the Owls will move on to Troy to face the Trojans (14-19, 4-4) Troy leads the Sun Belt with a .336 team batting average in conference play. The Trojans won last year's season series, winning twice in Boca Raton.
The Owls' series against South Alabama begins with a doubleheader on Wednesday at 5 p.m. eastern. Live stats will be available at www.fausports.com.
