BOCA RATON, Fla. - Members of the Florida Atlantic University softball team read to students at Addison Mizner Elementary School as part of a literacy program.

Samantha Messer, Laura Mann, Christina Martinez and Melissa Martinez broke up into groups to read books to first and second grade classes. That was followed by a discussion with each class stressing the importance of reading, academic achievement and teamwork. A brief question and answer period followed, before concluding with an autograph session. Each student received a free book at the end of the day to use for reading practice.

Books were donated the 2nd and 7 Foundation, an organization started by former Ohio State University football players Mike Vrabel, Luke Fickell and Ryan Miller. The purpose of the foundation is to promote literacy and provide positive role models to young children. FAU is one of seven schools that participate in the program nationwide.
