RUSTON, La. – The Florida Atlantic softball team lost to Louisiana Tech 4-0 in the rubber game of a weekend series on Sunday.
Samantha Messer and Bianca Duran were locked in a pitchers’ duel for the early portion of the game. Neither team was able to score through the first four innings, in part due to spectacular defensive plays made by both teams. The Lady Techsters (13-22, 4-8 C-USA) broke through in the bottom of the fifth. Tech led off the inning with a double, advanced when Messer was called for an illegal pitch, then scored on a squeeze play.
In the sixth inning, three hits and an FAU error pushed the lead to 4-0. The Owls’ (23-17, 6-6) best chance to score came in the fourth inning when they loaded the bases with two out. However, a fielder’s choice ended the threat.
FAU returns home to host rival FIU for a three-game series, beginning with a doubleheader on Saturday, April 5. The first game will start at 4 p.m. and will air on Fox Sports Net. Live stats will be available at fausports.com. A link to watch the game through the C-USA Digital Network package will also be available at fausports.com.
